THE CLEANING OF PAINTINGS, AND KEEPING RECORDS
Dirt, old and discoloured varnishes, darkened or ill-matching restoration or overpaint all disguise the nature, interest and beauty of a painting.
After careful testing, these can be removed.
Scientific investigation is undertaken when necessary to determine the age and nature of the different additions from episodes in a painting’s life – see ‘Scientific Investigation’ page.
Photographic and written records are kept of the painting’s prior condition and of the conservation/restoration process, and are supplied to the client before and after work takes place.
Clients may, by arrangement, visit to view stages of the work as it progresses.
